ITEM SUMMARY:

The City of McKinney recently received the Celebrating Leadership in Development Excellence (CLIDE) Award in Public Planning and Policy from the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). The City received the Award for Phase I of the Northwest Sector Study Initiative.

The Awards Ceremony was held on June 18, 2015 at the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Annual General Assembly luncheon.

Ten winners were selected from a field of twenty-seven applicants from across North Texas. Award recipients were unanimously selected by a distinguished panel of four (4) nationally recognized experts in the fields of architecture, development, and planning.

NCTCOG Staff would now like to formally present the CLIDE Award to the City Council to recognize your support and leadership throughout Phase 1 of the Northwest Sector Study Initiative.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The biennial CLIDE Awards honor development and planning projects that exemplify the region’s Ten Principles of Development Excellence, which outline a vision for sustainable and livable communities in North Texas.

The Principles of Development Excellence center on providing choices for how and where people choose to live/work, promoting walkable environments through transportation and resource-efficient growth, and encouraging mixed use and environmentally responsible development - all in quality places that people will be proud to inhabit.

CLIDE Awards are given in five different categories: New Development, Redevelopment, Special Development, Public Planning and Policy, and Raising Public Awareness. The Northwest Sector Study Initiative was one of three (3) award recipients in the category of Public Planning and Policy.
