RECOMMENDED PROS BOARD ACTION:
• Approval of the terms to be included in a resolution and memorandum of understanding allowing for a public/private partnership between the City of McKinney and the Sunrise Rotary Club allowing for design and construction of an All-Inclusive Playground at Bonnie Wenk Park.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This item allows for input related to the terms for inclusion in a public / private partnership with the Sunrise Rotary Club.
• Terms being considered are intended to allow completion of a resolution for City Council consideration authorizing the Interim City Manager to execute a memorandum of understanding with the Sunrise Rotary Club.
• Execution of the agreement will enable the design and construction of an All-Inclusive playground valued at approximately $500,000.
• Construction of the All-Inclusive playground will be allowed on City property, specifically at Bonnie Wenk Park.
• All costs directly related to the All-Inclusive playground design and construction will be paid for by the Sunrise Rotary Club.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Sunrise Rotary Club approached the City with a request to construct an All-Inclusive Playground in a City Park.
• The City agreed to allow the All-Inclusive Playground to be constructed in a City Park, specifically at Bonnie Wenk Park.
• The City requested the Sunrise Rotary Club consider including the All-Inclusive Playground in the area of construction designated for Bonnie Wenk Phase II.
• Through a series of meetings between the Sunrise Rotary, the City and the City’s consultant, la terrra studio have determined a project timeline and areas of responsibilities for each organization.
• The timeline and areas of responsibility will be included in a Memorandum of Understanding that will be presented to the City Council.
• Terms to be considered for inclusion in the Memorandum of Understanding have been mutually agreed to by City staff and the Sunrise Rotary Club representatives.
• Staff is extremely supportive of the proposal and partnership opportunity that this project provides.
• The development of this agreement would be of great value to many individuals who live in McKinney, as well as those from surrounding cities.
• PROS Board support of the terms of this partnership is requested.
• Prior to submittal to the City Council, the proposed terms of the Resolution and Memorandum of Understanding will be approved to form by legal counsel.
