RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:      
·      Approval of the Resolution
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      This resolution establishes the hours for the reduced speed school zones at the following schools for the 2015 summer school sessions.
o      McKinney High School  
o      Faubion Middle School  
o      Vega Elementary School  
o      Scott Elementary School  
·      Both McKinney ISD and Frisco ISD will have schools holding summer school in 2015.   
·      The summer sessions at McKinney High School (McKinney ISD) will begin July 13, 2015 and will end July 30, 2015. School will be in session 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday on various days for each session.  
·      The summer session at Faubion Middle School (McKinney ISD) will begin June 9, 2015 and will end June 25, 2015. School will be in session 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  
·      The summer session at Vega Elementary School (McKinney ISD) will begin June 8, 2015 and will end July 23, 2015. School will be in session 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  
·      The summer session at Scott Elementary School (Frisco ISD) will begin June 8, 2015 and will end July 2, 2015. School will be in session 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.  
·      For arrival, the reduced speed school zone will be effective beginning 45 minutes before the beginning of the summer session for the day and end 15 minutes after the beginning of school. For dismissal, the reduced speed school zone will be effective 15 minutes before the dismissal of the summer session for the day and will end 45 minutes after dismissal of school. These summer school times are consistent with the times used during the school year.   
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      In 2003, the City Council adopted an Ordinance that provided a process to establish a reduced speed school zone for summer sessions.
·      The process involves the City Council adopting a Resolution that designates the school and times of the summer sessions.  
 
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:  
·      The funding for the signage necessary to establish the reduced speed school zones for the schools holding summer school in 2015 is in the Public Works operating budget.
