RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approve resolution authorizing the Interim City Manager to execute an agreement with McKinney Sunrise Rotary Club allowing for the design and construction of an All-Inclusive Playground at Bonnie Wenk Park.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This item was presented to the City Council during their August 31, 2015 Work Session.
• Input from the City Council has been taken under advisement in the preparation of the attached formal written agreement between the City and Sunrise Rotary Club.
• A resolution authorizing the Interim City Manager to execute the agreement with the Sunrise Rotary Club is attached for City Council consideration.
• Execution of the agreement will allow for the design of an All-Inclusive playground valued at approximately $500,000.
• Once the design has been completed and the project bid for construction, a follow-up agreement for actual construction of the All-Inclusive playground will be presented to the City Council for review and consideration.
• All cost directly related to the All-Inclusive playground design and construction will be paid for by Sunrise Rotary.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Sunrise Rotary Club approached the City with a request to construct an All-Inclusive Playground in a City Park.
• The City agreed to allow the All-Inclusive Playground to be constructed in a City Park, and specifically at Bonnie Wenk Park.
• The City requested the Sunrise Rotary Club consider including the All-Inclusive Playground in the area of construction designated for Bonnie Wenk Ph. II.
• Through a series of meetings between Sunrise Rotary, the City and the City’s consultant, la terrra studio, who is currently preparing project bid documents for Bonnie Wenk Ph. II, a final determination of the project timeline and areas of responsibilities for each agency was determined.
• The timeline and areas of responsibility are included in the attached formal written agreement for City Council consideration.
• Staff is extremely supportive of the proposal and partnership opportunity that this project provides.
• The development of this agreement would be of great value to many individuals who live in McKinney as well as those from surrounding cities.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• This agreement allows for the All-Inclusive Playground design fees in an amount of $30,000 to be donated to the City by the McKinney Sunrise Rotary Club. A budget amendment allowing this amount to be added to the contract will be submitted to the City Council in the near future.
