summary
MEETING DATE: June 17, 2014
DEPARTMENT: Fire Department
CONTACT: Karen Adkins, Emergency Management Coordinator
Janay Tieken, Housing and Community Development Manager
RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of Resolution to accept and implement a grant award, combining existing grant funding for implementation of new project.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The UASI program focuses on enhancing regional security preparedness, including first aid training, in major metropolitan areas.
· In 2013, the City of McKinney received "National" General Aviation airport status from the Federal Aviation Administration. As a result of this new status and to comply with NFPA 1584, the McKinney Fire Department/EMS would like to purchase a multi-use MCI vehicle to allow for improved MCI response.
· This multi-use MCI Vehicle will be a box truck on a Ford F59 chassis with a 22,000 lb. GVW and a 22 foot walk-in body.
· This vehicle will include medical supplies for triage and treatment; a small command center for incident management; and rehab capacities to ensure that public safety personnel are working safely. It will be equipped with an awning, exterior lighting, rehab equipment, and cooling supplies.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· The City of McKinney previously received funding for a Medical Squad Vehicle (AI 13-1084) and a WebEOC Intern (AI 13-1085). The Medical Squad Vehicle was subsequently deemed ineligible for funding from DHS as it was a daily use vehicle. The Web EOC intern is no longer required as capabilities are maintained adequately by current staff.
· The City of McKinney, with Council approval, is seeking approval to accept and implement a grant award combining funding from two existing projects, into a single project to fund a multi-use, MCI vehicle.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· Previously approved grants (Medical Squad Vehicle $105,857.64) and (WebEOC Intern $25,000) will be combined into one $130,857.64 grant to purchase a drivable, multi-use, MCI vehicle.
· Maintenance of the vehicle is the responsibility of the City of McKinney.
· There is no match requirement.
