RECOMMENDED PROS BOARD ACTION:
• Recommend to the City Council a Final List of Name(s) for a 16-Acre Park Site Located Next to Sonntag Elementary School.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• On June 9, 2016, the PROS Board selected four names from the online submittal for this park site.
• Naming of a Park is typically coordinated with the project construction completion.
• Construction of a 16 acre park located at 1849 Reagan Drive was completed in early 2016.
• A copy of the duties of the PROS Board’s role in naming parks is also attached.
• Staff would like the Board to revisit the number of names that will be submitted to City Council for consideration.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• On February 11, 2016, the Park Board voted to solicit the public for suggestions in naming the park.
• Parks and Recreation Department solicited name suggestions from the public via an online submittal form.
• The online submittal form was posted to the City’s website on 3/29/2016.
• The online submittal form was promoted via social media, Facebook and Nextdoor. It was also featured on the City website’s homepage as a scrolling banner.
• The deadline for submittals for this park was 4/12/16, allowing citizens two weeks to submit names.
• All submittals were submitted to the PROS Board for their consideration and recommendation to the City Council on June 9, 2016.
• On June 9, 2016, the PROS Board selected four names for further consideration: George Webb Park; Dr. Mack Moran Hill Park; Richard and Agnes Coughlin Park; and Monarch Park.
• It may be beneficial to City Council to receive a more refined number of names for consideration.
