RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approval of the Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:

This Resolution authorizes the Interim City Manager to enter into a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement (LPAFA) with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to furnish traffic signal equipment related to the construction of Harry McKillop Boulevard (FM 546) for the intersection of Harry McKillop Boulevard and McDonald Street (SH 5), for an amount not to exceed $44,567.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

For the new alignment of FM 546 to be named Harry McKillop Boulevard, a new traffic signal has been approved to be installed at the future intersection of Harry McKillop Boulevard and McDonald Street (SH 5).

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) policies do not allow them to require their contractor to use the traffic signal equipment that matches the City of McKinney signal system but will allow the City to furnish the signal equipment for their contractor to install.

Therefore, the City will furnish the traffic signal controller cabinet assembly, video detection and other miscellaneous equipment as part of this agreement with the understanding that TxDOT will reimburse the City for the cost.

The construction for the realignment of FM 546 is scheduled to let in March 2016 with an approximate schedule for completion in early 2018.

The reimbursement will be paid upon completion of the project.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

While Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will reimburse the cost of the traffic signal equipment, funding for upfront acquisition will be necessary.

A concurrent CIP Budget Amendment for TR1602 identifies TxDOT as the ultimate funding source for this Agreement.
