RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approval of Resolution.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This Resolution authorizes a contract with McKinstry Company in association with Home Energy Americas, LLC to provide design/build services related to the design and construction of the McKinney Renewable Energy Demonstration (RED) Project to be located in Gabe Nesbit Park in conjunction with the existing Softball Concession Building, in the amount not to exceed $200,000.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The Renewable Energy Demonstration (RED) Project will be located at Gabe Nesbit Park.

                     The RED Project will include:

o                     a solar panel array used for the generation of electricity that will both be mounted on the roof of the existing Softball Concession Building,

o                     a solar tube array used for water heating,

o                     a ground mounted wind energy conversion system similar to the system installed on Fire Station #8, and

o                     on site metering for each source depicting the amount of energy generated from each system with signage for comparisons to typical household appliance energy usage.

                     A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was advertised in December 2010 and two (2) design/build teams submitted their qualification statements in January 2011.

                     The Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) were reviewed and evaluated by a team that included representatives from the Office of Environmental Stewardship, Planning and Engineering.

                     The McKinstry Company has successfully constructed multiple projects of a similar nature.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     Current funding for this contract is available in the Department of Energy Grant 1047.

                     This Resolution authorizes a contract with the McKinstry Company for an amount not to exceed $200,000.
