RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:     

                     Approval of Resolution.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Request for Proposal was advertised.

                     The first bid opening was February 3, 2011 (extended to February 10th due to inclement weather).

                     After initial response RFP was advertised again.

                     The second bid opening was March 24, 2011.

                     Nine (9) responses were received.

                     Recommended as best evaluated proposal is Lifetime Tennis of Campbell, California.

                     Lifetime Tennis was selected based on the following factors: firm’s proposed services met the objectives of the request and the needs of the City; the firm has 18 years of experience providing comprehensive tennis center management services to Cities; the firm’s financial capacity and commitment to the City.

 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Lifetime Tennis currently operates (3) City owned tennis centers in California including an 18-court facility in Cupertino, a 10-court facility in Pleasanton and a 10-court facility in Walnut.

                     Lifetime Tennis will employ:

o                     Dana Gill as the Executive Director responsible for liaison with City staff, business development, community outreach and company financing;

o                     Matt Hanlin as the General Manager, former professional tennis player, responsible for overall on-site business management; and,

o                     Chris Foltz as Tennis Director responsible for leading the teaching staff.

                     Lifetime Tennis will assume risks associated with their operation of the McKinney Tennis Center.

                     Lifetime Tennis will recommend a fee schedule for City approval, maintain equipment, staff facility, fund clubhouse utility costs, and develop daily and tournament programming.

                     Lifetime Tennis will seek a naming rights sponsor for the tennis center.

                     The term of this agreement is five (5) years, ending on September 30, 2016, with the option to extend the term two (2) additional periods of five (5) years each.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

                     Lifetime Tennis will pay the City 8% of gross receipts or the equivalent of $30,000 per year (whichever is greater).

                     PROS Board’s approval on October 13, 2011.
