RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:      
·      Approval of the attached Resolution.
 
ITEM SUMMARY:  
·      This Resolution:
o      Establishes a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $1,992,000 for the construction of the Skatepark and authorizes a contract amendment with Dean Construction, Inc.
 
o      Establishes a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $1,829,500 for the construction of the two-field baseball project and authorizes a contract amendment with Dean Construction, Inc.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  
·      On March 6, 2012 City Council approved a budget amendment adding a design/build contract for a 2-field baseball complex to the Skatepark project awarded to Dean Construction Inc.
 
·      At the March 6, 2012 City Council meeting City Council was informed that staff would report back to City Council with a final Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the skateboard project and 2-field baseball project based on final design development.
 
·      At the March 6, 2012 meeting staff also informed City Council that the total budget amounts for the two projects would not be exceeded.
 
·      A design/build contract for the skateboard park was awarded to Dean Construction for $1,900,000. The amendment will increase the contract by $92,000 to cover construction materials testing, additional lighting, shade covers, and landscaping.
·      A design/build contract for the two-field baseball project was awarded to Dean Construction, Inc. for $1,750,000. The amendment will increase the contract by $79,500 to cover construction materials testing and additional seating, shade structures and landscaping.
 
 
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:  
·      Current funding for the Skatepark (PK1214) contract amendment is within the originally approved budget of $2,000,000.
 
·      The Resolution authorizes a contract for Dean Construction for an amount not to exceed $1,992,000 for PK1214.
 
·      Current funding for the Gabe Nesbitt Community Park Phase VI (PK1210) contract amendment is within the originally approved budget of $1,849,000.
 
·      The Resolution authorizes a contract for Dean Construction for an amount not to exceed $1,829,500 for PK1210.
 
·      $19,500 in City contingency for the Gabe Nesbitt Community Park Phase VI (PK1210) will remain.
 
·      $8000 in City contingency for the Skatepark (PK1214) will remain.
 
BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
·      On August 9, 2012, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board recommended to City Council that Dean Construction, Inc. be awarded contract amendments for the GMP's for the Skatepark project (PK1214) and the Gabe Nesbitt Community Park Phase VI project (PK1210).
