BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In February of 2019, the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) awarded funding to hire an architect to study the viability and develop concept plans for the potential expansion of the Apex Centre located in Gabe Nesbitt Community Park.

This process resulted in conceptual plans that confirm various viable options to deliver more square footage to the building. This process involved a steering committee comprised of representatives from City Council, PROS Advisory Board, MCDC, Apex Membership, and City staff

At this time, the Parks and Recreation Department is requesting funds in the amount of $2,500,000 to be used to complete design drawings for the Apex Centre Expansion. This process will take approximately 18-months. Funding for the construction of this project will be identified at a future date.

The Apex Centre is also in need of immediate improvements in order to deliver the services and experiences sought by our current membership and needed to continue to grow our membership over time.

This includes the following: Materials and Installation of Landscape Improvements ($100,000); Installation of Obstacle Course for Existing Indoor Pool ($330,000); Enhancements to Existing Outdoor Slides to Include Sound System, Lights and a Dragster Timing System with Score Board ($126,019); Design and Installation of a Sauna Room in the Aquatics Area ($100,000); Adding Building and Monument Signage at Alma Entrance ($200,000); and Installation of Outdoor Fitness Area ($256,000).                      Each of these improvements shall be delivered within 12-months.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

This request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Sections 501 to 505 of the Texas Local Government Code.

See attached application for details of requested funds.
