RECOMMENDED PROS BOARD ACTION:                     

                     Recommend to the City Council a Name(s) for the 16-Acre park site located next to Sonntag Elementary School.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Naming of a Park is typically coordinated with the project construction completion.

                     Construction of a 16-acre park located at 1849 Reagan Drive was completed in early 2016.

                     A copy of the Park site plan is attached.

                     The PROS Board provided staff with guidance regarding the naming of the park site.

                     Staff has conducted a naming process based on PROS Board guidance.

                     A copy of the Municipal Facility Naming Policy is attached: 2014-01-008(R).

                     A copy of the duties of the PROS Board’s role in naming parks is also attached.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     On February 11, 2016 the Park Board voted to solicit the public for suggestions in naming the park. 

                     Parks and Recreation Department solicited name suggestions from the public via an online submittal form.

                     The online submittal form was posted to the City’s website on 3/29/2016.

                     The online submittal form was promoted via social media, Facebook and Nextdoor.  It was also featured on the City website’s homepage as a scrolling banner.

                     The deadline for submittals was 4/12/16, allowing citizens two weeks to submit names. 

                     All submittals will be presented to the PROS Board for their consideration and recommendation to the City Council.

                     All submittals will be kept on file for future consideration for park names.

                     Policy allows the PROS Board to make a recommendation to the City Council regarding naming of park facilities.

                     Criteria included in the attached naming policy shall be taken into consideration by the PROS Board before submitting names to the City Council.
