ITEM SUMMARY:

This is a grant request from the McKinney National Airport in the amount of $1,500,000 for the construction of a new transient hangar.

Currently all hangars at the airport are occupied which limits staff’s ability to house transient planes.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The McKinney National Airport (MNA), as owned by the City of McKinney, is planning to design and construct and 18,000 sq/ft transient hangar to serve a large transient population. Currently hangar space at MNA is at capacity, and our target audience, (general aviation, corporate, and other transient customers), are unable to store their aircraft in a covered structure that protects their assets from the elements.

The scope of this project will stretch over a 12-month period, not to exceed 18 months, from design to completion. The transient hangar is planned to be 18,000 sq/ft, and no less than 15,000 sq/ft at completion.

The City of McKinney acquired the facilities at the airport in November of 2013.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Section 501.101 (d) of the Texas Local Government Code authorizes Type B corporations to fund projects related to the creation or retention of primary jobs; and found by the board to be required or suitable for the development, retention or expansion of:

o                      (d) transportation facilities, including airports, hangars, rail switching facilities, maintenance and repair facilities, cargo facilities

This grant request will help facilitate expansion of operations and help generate vital economic activity.
