REMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve Resolution with either Option A or Option B determining the number of Alternate Members to be appointed to each board
ITEM SUMMARY:
The following suggested changes have been incorporated into the attached Policy on Board and Commission Member Appointment and Eligibility, regarding the appointment of Alternate Members:
Option A)
Appoint two Alternate Members to the following boards:
§ Board of Adjustment
§ Building & Standards
§ McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC)
§ McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCVB)
§ McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
§ Parks, Recreation & Open Space Board
§ Planning & Zoning Commission; and
Appoint one Alternate Member to the following boards:
§ Animal Services Facility Advisory Committee
§ Community Grants Advisory Commission
§ Historic Preservation Advisory Board
§ Library Advisory Board
§ McKinney Armed Services Memorial Board
§ McKinney Arts Commission
§ McKinney Housing Authority
§ McKinney Housing Finance Corporation
§ McKinney Main Street Board
Option B)
Appoint two Alternate Members to the following boards:
§ Board of Adjustment

§ Parks, Recreation & Open Space Board
§ Planning & Zoning Commission; and
Appoint one Alternate Member to the following boards:

• Boards with two Alternates will have members appointed for staggered two-year terms with the first Alternates appointed for service beginning October 2019, serving for two years until October 2021 or until their successor is appointed; and the second of the Alternates appointed for service beginning October 2019, serving for one (1) year until October 2020 or until their successor is appointed.
• Boards with one Alternate will have members appointed for a two-year term beginning in October 2019 serving until October 2021 or until their successor is appointed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The City Council adopted and amended the policy on Board and Commission Member Appointment and Eligibility on July 21, 2009, August 17, 2009, May 24, 2010, June 15, 2010, October 4, 2011, June 4, 2013, September 17, 2013, September 14, 2014, June 8, 2015, July 21, 2015, August 3, 2015, December 1, 2015, September 20, 2016, February 7, 2017, and August 28, 2017.
