· Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance modifies the Code of Ordinances related to handicapped/disabled parking around the Downtown Square to include locations that were added with the recent reconstruction of several streets in the area, and other locations that had been removed.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· The recently completed construction of Virginia Street and Kentucky Street modified the locations for the handicapped/disabled parking spaces around the Downtown Square, thereby requiring a change to the Code of Ordinances.
· The following handicapped/disabled parking spaces were created:
o One space on the east side of Kentucky Street north of the intersection of Virginia Street and Kentucky Street
o One space on the north side of Virginia Street west of the intersection of Virginia Street and Kentucky Street
o Two spaces, one on the east side and one on the west side of Kentucky Street, south of the intersection of Louisiana Street and Kentucky Street
o One space on the west side of Tennessee Street south of the intersection of Louisiana Street and Tennessee Street
o One space on the east side of Tennessee Street south of the intersection of Virginia Street and Tennessee Street
o Two spaces, one of the east side and one on the west side of Tennessee Street, north of the intersection of Virginia Street and Tennessee Street
o One space on the south side of Virginia Street east of the intersection of Virginia Street and Tennessee Street
o Two spaces, one on the north side and one on the south side of Virginia Street, east of the intersection of Virginia Street and Chestnut Street
· The two spaces on the west side of Kentucky south of the intersection of Logan Street and Kentucky were removed with the reconstruction.
· In 2008, City Council delegated to the Traffic Engineer the authority to modify parking regulations within McKinney. However, the Traffic Engineer has continued to present City Council modifications to any parking restrictions in the downtown area due to the uniqueness of the area.
