ITEM SUMMARY:

In Fall of 2021 NCTCOG solicited proposals for an Autonomous Vehicle Project.

A proposal was developed that will use Autonomous Vehicle (A/V) technology to increase access to healthcare and other services for underserved McKinney residents.

As currently envisioned, the project will also be deployed to underserved residents of the City of Dallas

The project application is supported by Children’s Health Center, Toyota, Ford, Texas A&M Transportation Institute, SMU, DART, Autonomous Vehicle Alliance, Accessible Mobility Collaborative, Dallas County Health and Human Services and Others.

The $5M+ project will be funded primarily through a grant provided by the NCTCOG

No monetary contribution is being requested of the City of McKinney at this time.

The proposal anticipates that some in-kind staff services would be required to support the project.

The item was presented to City Council at the February 1, 2022 Work Session.

The resolution provides conditional support for the project so that staff can work out additional project details with NCTCOG, who is anticipated to lead the effort.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Feonix Mobility submitted a City of McKinney proposal to NCTCOG in November of 2021.

The proposal has been discussed at the NCTCOG Surface Transportation Technical Committee (STTC) and at the March 10, 2022 Regional Transportation Council (RTC) meeting.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The only contribution requested from the City of McKinney, at this time, is staff support.

City of McKinney participation in the project will be subject to successful consultant procurement by NCTCOG staff for deployment of appropriate technology.
