ITEM SUMMARY:
• North Collin County Habitat for Humanity has submitted a project grant application requesting a total of $331,072 for low income housing projects.
• The components included in the request are: $160,850 for land acquisition and lot preparation; $112,500 for exterior home repairs; and $57,722 for material costs for a project home that will be constructed by McKinney Independent School District and North Texas Job Corps volunteers.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• North Collin County Habitat for Humanity has been building homes for working, low-income families since its incorporation in 1992.
• NCCHFH utilizes a two-pronged initiative for low-income families: construction of new homes and exterior home repairs.
• Most of the homeowners served are seniors or disabled with both financial and housing needs.
• To date, NCCHFH has completed 110 new homes and 138 home rehabs. They estimate 248 families/992 people now live in solid, secure permanent housing as a result of NCCHFH programs.
• NCCHFH offers a unique opportunity for McKinney residents and visitors to participate in improving the community.
• McKinney neighborhoods impacted by NCCHFH’s A Brush with Kindness Program include La Loma, Rockwall, Lewisville and Mouzon.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• NCCHFH estimates total project cost to be $930,850.
• Matching funds in the amount of $591,668 are available to assist with total project costs.
• NCCHFH has indicated their funding plans include a pending request to City of McKinney CDBG, in the amount of $45,000 for additional support.
• NCCHFH has additional funds pledged, pending or approved from state, nonprofit and for profit entities.
• MCDC has a balance of $1,132,683 available to award for discretionary project grants.
