RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
• Staff is recommending approval of the Master Plan.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Parks Master Plan is an update to the current plan rather than a complete re-write. Ten of the primary recommendations listed in the 2017 Plan have been completed or are currently being addressed. This update will provide new recommendations as well as reflect updated parks acreage and progress that has been achieved since 2017.
• The Parks Master Plan is a comprehensive and long-range strategy which provides a road map for planning park improvements to ensure the park system serves the needs of the community today and tomorrow.
• Specifically, this update will include:
• recommendations for reinvesting in existing parks
• identifying various funding sources
• updated inventories
• high and moderate priority rankings for indoor and outdoor facilities
• In a concurrent agenda item, the Trails Master Plan is also being recommended for approval.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Staff previously provided a presentation on the overall Master Plan and Trails Plan during the November 1, 2022 Council work session.
• Dunaway Associates was selected from a list of pre-qualified landscape architectural firms that Council approved on July 22, 2022.
• The current Parks Master Plan and Trails Plan was adopted in 2017.
PARK BOARD RECOMMENDATION:
• On December 8, 2022, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board unanimously approved the Master Plan.
