Consider/Discuss/Act on a Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Contract with Horizon for Irrigation Repairs at Oak Hollow Golf Course
Summary
MEETING DATE: March 19, 2013
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation and Open Space
CONTACT: Lemuel P. Randolph, Director of Parks, Recreation and Open Space
RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Irrigation repairs at Oak Hollow Golf Course are necessary due to damage from lightning. Additional costs may be involved to cover unforeseen damages due to the lightning and the work is underground.
• To permit standardization and compatibility with existing irrigation equipment, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department has elected to go with Horizon/Rain Bird products/materials to replace damaged irrigation controllers.
• This project will entail installation of new controllers, central computer, jockey pump at $68,825 and electrical repairs, transformers, boring, etc. at $72,937 at an amount not to exceed $206,218, which includes a contingency of $64,456.
• A large contingency is necessary due to the uncertainty of work required underground and the potential for currently undiscovered damage due to the lightning strikes.
• If every valve and solenoid beyond the repaired controllers is damaged, it would cost an additional $50,280, which is covered in the contingency.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Staff recommends approval for the cost of repairs to the irrigation at Oak Hollow Golf Course.
• Horizon is the sole source for Rain Bird products/materials.
• Electrical services will be provided by the City’s current electrical contractor, Boyd Electric.
