BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
·      The equipment in the City of McKinney Data Center, located within the Public Safety Building, is now approaching eight years old. Our standard refresh cycle, established in 2010, is 5 years on network equipment and 3 years on workstation and laptops. This refresh with both allow for all enterprise class systems to be on the refresh cycle and deliver increased capacity, speed, and functionality.
·      The equipment, in this data center, consists of old servers, network storage, and network switches. The primary function of this equipment is to process, store, and/or transmit data; that is critical to the day to day operations of the Public Safety and City operations. Today, this equipment is beginning to fail and is considered end of life by the manufacturer which propagates the need for immediate replacement.  After careful evaluation of several solutions, the Department of Information Technology has determined that Dell blade servers, and EMC storage, is the best fit and most economical solution to meet the City's growing demands in the years to come.
