ITEM SUMMARY:

This Ordinance reduces the speed limit on the US 75 frontage roads south of Rockhill Road to 45 mph.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has requested the City of McKinney adopt an Ordinance establishing a 45 mph speed limit on the US 75 frontage roads south of White Avenue.

A 45 mph speed limit will allow TxDOT to safely utilize traffic control layouts with tighter geometric alignments.

The speed limit on the section of the US 75 frontage roads between White Avenue and just south of Rockhill Road is already set at 45 mph and does not need to be adjusted.

The speed limit on the section of the US 75 frontage roads south of Rockhill Road is currently set at 50 mph and will be changed to 45 mph by approval of this Ordinance.

Upon completion of the US 75 reconstruction project, TxDOT will recommend adjustments to the speed limit based on a speed zone study along the frontage road corridor.
