ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Arts Commission and Parks Staff is requesting $3,000 to bring Kupira Marimba to perform at the 2017 City of McKinney Juneteenth Celebration.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Austin-based Kupira Marimba plays high-energy Zimbabwean dance music on giant wooden xylophones.

                     Kupira Marimba, with Joel Laviolette, is a member of the Texas Commission for the Arts Touring Roster.


FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     On October 6, 2015, Resolution #15-944, the City Council allocated $15,000 to the McKinney Arts Commission to pay for Special Projects.

                     The $3,000 Kupira Marimba Odysseus Educational Outreach Project will be paid from this fund leaving a balance of $8,500.

                     The cost of the project is $3,000.  This includes all expenses related to the performance.

                     As a member of the Texas Commission for the Arts (TCA) Touring Roster, the City of McKinney may be eligible for reimbursement of a portion of the project expense.
