RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
·      Approval of Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:
  • The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has notified the City that Stage 3 will be implemented on June 1, 2013 to include the following major requests:
  • 10% water use reduction from the previous years usage.
  • Landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems is limited to once per week.
  • Staff has evaluated actions to achieve the 10% reduction and made amendments to policy attached. Amendments include the following due to non-enforceable issues, very small amount of water waste and the need to reduce outdoor water use:
  • Removed - Prohibit hosing of paved areas, buildings, or windows. Pressure washing of impervious surfaces is allowed.
  • Amended - Registered and properly functioning ET/Smart irrigation systems as defined in Chapter 110, Article VIII, “Landscape Water Management,” may irrigate without restrictions. Add: “The ET/Smart irrigation systems registered after June 1, 2013 will not be exempt.”
  • Removed - An existing swimming pool may not be drained and refilled; however, water may be used to replace normal water loss.
  • Removed - Prohibit watering of golf courses using treated water, except as needed to keep greens and tee boxes alive.
  • These restrictions will remain in place until rescinded or accelerated to stage 4 by the NTMWD.
