RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will accomplish the following:
o Modify the school zone times for all Frisco ISD schools in McKinney to reflect the changes within the school class times.
o Revise the boundary of the MISD school zone along Joplin Drive for Minshew Elementary by moving the northern limit to the property line between two residential lots.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Frisco ISD has approved a three-tiered bell schedule for the 2011-2012 school year. Fewer buses will be required as the elementary, middle and high schools will begin at different times and thusly saving the district money.
· The following Frisco ISD schools located in McKinney will be modified:
o Mooneyham Elementary
o Elliot Elementary
o Olge Elementary
o Sonntag Elementary
o Scoggins Middle School
· The morning school time will be established at the standard time; 45 minutes before the beginning of school and end 15 minutes afterward. The afternoon school zone will be established 15 minutes before school dismissal and will end 45 minutes after dismissal time.
· Roach Middle School is located within the city limits of Frisco; however, a small portion of the school zone on Independence Parkway extends into the city limits of McKinney. The school zone times will be consistent with the balance of the school zone as established by the City of Frisco.
· The northern boundary of the school zone along Joplin Drive for Minshew Elementary is currently located in the frontage of a residential lot and will be extended by 30 feet to allow the school zone sign to be located at the property line between the two residential lots.
