RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Reconsideration of appointment to the McKinney Housing Authority.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• On April 19, 2016 the City Council appointed Gloria Evans to fill the vacant resident position on the McKinney Housing Authority.
• After the appointment, staff researched and discovered that Ms. Evans does not qualify to serve as the resident member of the McKinney Housing Authority.
• According to Texas Local Government Code, Sec. 392.0331. Appointment of Tenant Representative as Commissioner of Municipal, County, or Regional Housing Authority.
o (a) This section applies only to:
§ (1) a municipality; or
§ (2) a county that has a county housing authority or is a member of regional housing authority and the total number of units in the authority is more than 750.
o (b) Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), in appointing commissioners under Section 392.031, a municipality with a municipal housing authority composed of five commissioners shall appoint at least one commissioner to the authority who is a tenant of a public housing project over which the authority has jurisdiction.
• On February 25, 2016, Detrise LeFall resigned as the resident member of the McKinney Housing Authority. (Term expires September 30, 2017)
• Ms. Elisa Jackson is an eligible applicant to fill the vacant position.
