ITEM SUMMARY:
• This request is to purchase a heavy rescue/hazardous materials response apparatus to be used by the fire department to respond to technical rescue and hazardous materials related events. The Department responds to such events but must assemble or respond multiple vehicles to bring specialized equipment to the scene. A single apparatus will improve efficiency and maintain equipment in one location.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Fire Department currently responds to technical rescue and hazardous materials events.
• Rescue equipment is maintained at multiple locations. A single vehicle will simplify complex scenarios.
• This vehicle will allow for the gradual incorporation of a hazardous materials response capability beyond basic level.
• No new FTE positions are required to staff this vehicle.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• AFG is a 90% federal / 10% local cost share for jurisdictions with a population of 20,000 to 1,000,000.
• The amount of the grant request is for $1,600,000.00 for the purchase of a heavy rescue/hazardous materials response apparatus. The City is responsible for 10% match, or approximately $160,000.00.
• This apparatus will be staffed with current personnel and not require any new FTE’s.
• Grant request and local share does not include loose equipment.
