RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The proposed Resolution authorizes the application for and acceptance of, if awarded, a Texas Parks & Wildlife Grant for the Construction of the Erwin Park Improvements Project.
• The project is planned to deliver 3 new restroom facilities and 3 new pavilions.
• The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting grant assistance in the amount of $750,000.
• This funding program requires a 1:1 match from the City.
• The application submission deadline to Texas Parks & Wildlife is December 5, 2019, with an award announcement in spring of 2020.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The restrooms and pavilions have been in existence since the park opened in 1974 and are badly in need of replacements
• This park is heavily used by mountain bikers, hikers, walkers, campers and nature enthusiasts.
• These upgrades will deliver elements of the 2008 master plan for Erwin Park.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The grant will be awarded in FY20.
• The funding source for the matching funds for this grant application is $200,000 from PK9143.
• If awarded, an additional $550,000 from parkland dedication zone 1 will be transferred via a budget amendment to be authorized by City Council
