RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Resolution for application and acceptance of the Crime Scene Investigator grant, if awarded
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The State of Texas awards 421 State Criminal Justice Planning Funds to assist cities in developing projects designed to reduce crime and improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems
• Staff requests approval for application and acceptance of a three year grant to fund a Crime Scene Technician position, based on availability of funding
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The grant is on a three year funding cycle, with decreased funding in years two and three
• Maximum grant amount is $80,000
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The salary, benefits, and overtime for the Crime Scene Investigator position will be $60,173. Equipment and vehicle one-time cost for the position will be $62,254.
• Year two of the grant will pay 80% of the first year’s funding - $48,138
• Year three of the grant will pay 60% of the first year’s funding - $36,104
• The grant pays salary for the position, up to the maximum annual amount, so additional funding will be necessary
