RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of application and acceptance of the U.S. Department of Justice 2019 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), if awarded.
• Authority to enter into an Interlocal Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with Collin County, the City of Frisco and the City of Plano for disbursement of JAG funds.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The JAG provides funds to assist in the enhancement of public safety and crime reduction in the City of McKinney.
• Funds will be used to purchase six (6) lidar units to be used for traffic safety enforcement.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The grant is issued by the U.S. Department of Justice to enable local law enforcement agencies to purchase needed equipment.
• The grant funds are shared by the City of McKinney, Collin County, the City of Frisco and the City of Plano. The City of McKinney’s share is $14,115.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The cost of the equipment is approximately $15,570. The grant will provide $14,115. The remaining funds needed for the purchase will be funded by the Law Enforcement Budget.
