RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve Ordinance

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     An election will be held in accordance with the Texas Election Code to determine whether the “sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only” shall be legalized in the city.

                     The election will take place on November 8, 2022, according to election day and early voting schedules, locations, and other requirements as provided in the attached ordinance.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     On March 1, 2022, a petition for a local option election was certified as valid in accordance with the Texas Election Code, which prescribes that an election be held to determine the measure.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     The estimated costs of the election which include a contract for election services, a joint election agreement, translation services, publication of legal notices, and advertisement and other distribution of election information, is $70,000 (scheduled to be budgeted for fiscal year 2022-23)
