RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of this Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will extend the reduced speed school zone along Silverado Trail for Ogle Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· The west end of the reduced speed zone on Silverado Trail for Ogle Elementary School ends at the school property line.
· The south two lanes of Silverado Trail are being constructed westward from the school property to Custer Road. The construction is planned to be substantially complete and opened to traffic by the end of May, weather permitting.
· The extension of Silverado Trail to the west necessitates the installation of the eastbound direction flashing school zone beacon and will extend the reduced speed school zone on Silverado Trail, west of the school property.
· The length of the reduced speed school zone extension was determined by an available location for the flashing school zone beacon foundation which was restricted by the bridge structure on Silverado Trail over Rowlett Creek and to help discourage excessive speeding at the school crossing at Big Fork Drive at Silverado Trail.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· Installation of the signage and flashing school zone beacon on Silverado Trail for Ogle Elementary School is available in the Public Works operating budget.
