ITEM SUMMARY:
• Cadence Cyclery has purchased Woodmans of the World Building at 119 South Tennessee Street
• The building was constructed at the turn of the 20th century
• TIRZ funds have been invested to support façade improvements
• Owner seeking partnership with McKinney Arts Commission for mural on northside face of building
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Public Art projects involve a process that seeks Requests for Qualifications from artist
• A subcommittee of the McKinney Arts Commission would review RFQ’s and identify finalists
• Finalists submit concept/design and are provided concept design fee
• Artist Mural fees range from $25-50 per square foot
• Mural would need approval from Historic Preservation and Building Inspections
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• 50% of the cost of the work would be provided by Cadence Cyclery with the other 50% to be provided from the Public Art Fund.
• Projected project costs could incorporate:
o Concept Design Fee: $250 x 3 Finalists = $750
o Wall preparation: $2,500
o Artist Fee: Approximately 304 sq feet x $32 = $9,728
o Total project cost potential = $13,000 to $15,000
