RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Ratify the Appointment of incumbent Ken Wiegand to the position of Airport Executive Director
ITEM SUMMARY:
· On September 17, 2013, the City Council approved the Third Amended Bylaws for the McKinney Airport Development Corporation
· Under Article VI, "Executive Director", the appointment of Executive Director requires ratification by the City Council.
"The Executive Director shall be an at-will employee of the City who shall report to the City Manager. The Executive Director shall assist the City Manager in the management of the properties and operations of the Airport. The Executive Director shall be an ex-officio member of all Board committees, except the Audit Committee. The Executive Director shall assist the Board of Directors, within the general guidelines and policies of the Board and City Manager, the ordinances of the City, and the FAA Grant Assurances and rules. The City Manager shall be responsible for the hiring of the Executive Director subject to ratification by a majority of the City Council. The Executive Director shall not be terminated unless ratified by a majority vote of the City Council in open session."
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Ken Wiegand was hired as Airport Manager on July 1, 2002.
· The title has changed from Airport Manager to the current Executive Director.
