ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     The City of McKinney Parks and Recreation Department is requesting $15,000 for advertising, marketing and promotion of a Holiday Light Display in Gabe Nesbitt Park.

                     The event will take place December 1 through December 24, 2018.

                     Estimated attendance, with calculations based on attendance at Main Street events, is 50,000.

                     Target audience is families.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The mission of Apex Centre is to lead and serve the community by providing captivating experiences through operational excellence and fiscal success.

                     The goal of establishing a scholarship program for those in financial need was discussed beginning early in the construction phase of the Apex Centre.

                     Net proceeds from the event will support a scholarship program.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     MCDC’s allocation for Promotional and Community Event grants for FY 18 is $150,000, $75,000 for Cycle I applicants, and $75,000 for Cycle II applicants.

                     The application from Parks and Recreation for promotional funding for a holiday light display is a first-time request. MCDC did approve promotional funding for Red White and Boom in the 2009-2010 timeframe.
