ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Resolution will allow the City of McKinney to enter into an agreement with TxDOT for the sharing of traffic camera video feeds.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· TxDOT operates traffic cameras along its major roadways to enhance traffic management.
· There are eight cameras located in McKinney along US 75.
· This agreement would allow for City staff to request control of these cameras during an incident response on US 75.
· City staff would be able to rotate and zoom in the camera to assist in evaluating incidents on US 75 and to determine if detours are necessary.
· City staff has coordinated with TxDOT on the successful test of this system using TxDOT supplied hardware.
· To make this a permanent operation, the City must supply its own hardware.
· The agreement would also grant TxDOT access to City traffic camera data.
· This data would be limited to state maintained roadways within the city limits.
· TxDOT has not expressed any interest in providing equipment for them to view City traffic cameras.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· The equipment needed is expected to cost less than $5,000 and will be funded from TR9124 in the CIP.
