RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve Resolution

ITEM SUMMARY:
* The City of McKinney does not currently have an appointed Local Health Authority.

* Dr. Muriel Marshall is the Health Authority for Collin County. She is board certified in Public Health and Preventive Medicine and Family Practice.

* Dr. Muriel Marshall, D.O., MPH & TM, DrPH, Physician, CCHCS Medical Director and Collin County Health Authority.

* The term of appointment will be for two years ending June 16, 2017


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

* Dr. Marshall received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Taylor University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Michigan State University. She completed a rotating internship in Toledo, Ohio and a residency in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Marshall then received a Master's in Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPH & TM) and a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) in the area of International Health from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana.

* Dr. Marshall has spent several years practicing overseas. She returned to the United States in 1993 and joined the faculty at the University of North Texas Health Science Center as Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Public Health and the Department of Family Medicine at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
