ITEM SUMMARY:
• Areté Athletics, a club volleyball organization, is requesting $987,750 to expand the existing club facility to include 10 additional volleyball courts to accommodate an increasing number of youth volleyball athletes.
• This project will provide a larger space to host regional volleyball tournaments in McKinney.
• Facility owners estimate the expansion would provide an opportunity to host more than twenty weekend tournaments, with up to 450 youth plus parents/family each.
• The expanded space will also allow for additional programming for adults and seniors including pickleball.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Areté Athletics is a club volleyball organization that provides developmental and competitive volleyball opportunities including teams, camps, clinics and private lessons for all ages.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds allocated for FY22 for discretionary Project Grants is $1,749,025, and $681,520.09 remain.
• The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 501.152 of the Texas Local Government Code - definition of “project.
