RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of Resolution confirming City support of the McKinney Housing Authority's (MHA) application for a Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The Choice Neighborhood's Planning Grant allows for Housing Authorities and communities to plan for modernization of public housing as well as plan for overall improvement in the surrounding community.
· If awarded, Planning Grant funds will be used by the McKinney Housing Authority to develop a "Transformation Plan" for the Highway 5 Corridor, Neighborhoods east of Tennessee and other distressed neighborhoods in the area.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Award of a Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant supports the development of a "Transformation Plan".
· Communities receiving Planning Grants are eligible to apply for Implementation Grants which support the implementation of the "Transformation Plan" to redevelop the neighborhood.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· There is no financial obligation to the City associated with the Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant application.
