RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

                     Approve License Agreement for Public Art Mural 2016 on Building Located at 112 S. Kentucky

 

ITEM SUMMARY:

                     At the January 21, 2016 Arts Commission meeting, the Arts Commission recommended locating the mural on the building at 112 S. Kentucky, on the southern wall of the current Cadillac Pizza building.

                     City Council approved this site at the February 2, 2016 Public Hearing on the mural site.

                     The license agreement is attached.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

                     The Artist and Design for the Mural was selected by a Public Art Selection Subcommittee. A Call to Artists for North Texas Arts was issued and Misty Oliver

-Foster’s design was chosen from the eight (8) submissions and approved by the Arts Commission on March 25, 2014.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

                     The estimated total cost of the 2016 Public Art Mural, including $1,500 previously approved for artist’s design concepts, is $21,402.

                     The public mural contract amount with Misty Oliver-Foster is $13,500.

                     Cost of wall repair to prepare the surface for the mural is $6,402.

                     $28,013 is in the City-funded portion of the Public Art Fund. $6,750 is available with matching funds. $6,402 is available without matching funds per AI 16-144.

                     $6,750 is available in the privately-funded portion of the Public Art Fund.

 

BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:

                     The selection of the building at 112 S. Kentucky was approved by Arts Commission at the January 21, 2016 meeting.
