ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will extend the school zone along Jordan Road for Imagine Charter School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· Imagine Charter School made some operational changes to their arrival and dismissal procedure this year that has had an impact on the vehicle stacking. One of the changes requires parents to drop children off in designated parking lots according to grade. The reason this change was made was to help reduce the vehicle stacking on Virginia Parkway.
· This procedural change resulted in a larger vehicle queue of vehicles on Jordan Road that extends into the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Jordan Road at Mayfair Lane.
· This Ordinance will extend the school zone to encompass this crossing reducing the speed of the vehicles where pedestrians enter the roadway.
· The effective times for the school zone on Jordan Road will continue as follows:
o Morning school zone will begin 45 minutes before the beginning of school and end 15 minutes after arrival for the day.
o Afternoon school zone will begin 15 minutes before the end of school and end 45 minutes after dismissal for the day.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· Funds for this item are available in the operating budget of the Public Works Department.
