title
Recognition of the McKinney Ice Hockey Varsity Team
summary
The McKinney Ice Hockey Varsity Team is composed of the three area McKinney High Schools and two other high schools whose players were drafted through open tryouts (for those area high schools who do not have high school hockey teams).
The McKinney Ice Hockey Varsity Team won the Texas Amateur Hockey Association’s Texas High School Hockey State Tournament on February 7, 2016 defeating Frisco in overtime in the Championship Game. The McKinney Varsity team will now represent Texas in the USA Hockey High School Hockey National Tournament in Reston, Virginia, March 17-21, 2016.
This is the second year in a row that the McKinney-based high school hockey team won State and qualified for Nationals. They must meet the same UIL standard of "no pass/no play" as the UIL school-sponsored sports such as football, basketball, baseball, etc. The members of the team must be proficient in both hockey and academics.
