RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approve the Resolution to amend the contract
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The current School Resource Officer (SRO) program supports five (5) officers in the high schools
· The SRO program will expand to include MISD middle schools.
· Five (5) additional officers will be added to SRO program.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· SROs address crime and disorder problems, gangs and drug activities affecting or occurring in or around schools.
· The current cost of the SROs is shared 50% to both MISD and the City of McKinney.
· The 2012-2013 school year contract was approved September 18, 2012,

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· MISD will fund the entire salary portion of the additional five middle school SROs for the remaining 2012-2013 school year
· An additional officer will be added in the school year starting 2013-2014 for a total of eleven (11) SROs in MISD schools.
· Future funding will resume at 50% shared cost to both MISD and the City.
