ITEM SUMMARY:
* Holy Family School in partnership with Legacy Keepers is requesting $7,100 for the promotion of Black History Month educational programs to include a pop-up museum at Doty Elementary School and shuttle tours through Finch Park, Ross Cemetery and Doty High School.
* Events will take place February 19-20, 2022 as part of Black History Month.
* The purpose of these programs is to educate, honor and promote McKinney's Black history.
* Multi-generational groups will be targeted for shuttle tours.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* The 70-year-old mission of Holy Family School is to provide safe, nurturing, high quality, curriculum based, Christ-centered care to the children of McKinney and surrounding areas regardless of parents' ability to pay.
* Holy Family was established by the Vega Family as La Escuelita in 1951, so the school claims that history even though they were not officially incorporated at Holy Family School until 1964.
* The mission and purpose of Legacy Keepers of Old East McKinney is to use the strength of members' unique identities in a collective framework to document, honor and promote the historic legacies of McKinney's Black and Mexican communities ensuring that all cultures are natural part of the community's experiences.
