ITEM SUMMARY:
• This public hearing will allow residents to provide comments on the upcoming Collin County Transit dynamic fare model. A public hearing is required before implementation of all changes in fares or major service changes.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• This fare change will update fares for Collin County Transit riders to a dynamic fare pricing model. All trips 7 miles or less will have a base fare of $5 and trip fares will increase proportional to trip mileage. This is a shift from the flat-fare model that was approved by the McKinney Urban Transit District Board in 2020. This dynamic fare is designed to ensure that the transit program continues in a fiscally sustainable manner.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• This dynamic fare pricing model will replace the flat-fare model that was approved by the McKinney Urban Transit District Board in 2020. The dynamic fare pricing model takes into account the average length of trips and provides a $5 base fare for all trips under 7 miles. Trip fares increase by 75 cents per mile, with a maximum fare of $17 for a 23-mile trip.
BOARD OR COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
• The McKinney Urban Transit District Board approved this dynamic fare change in May 2024, to begin Jan 2, 2025.
