RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Ordinance will establish the reduced speed school zones for Willow Wood Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Melissa Independent School District has constructed its first elementary school in McKinney at the intersection of County Road 278 and Parkdale Drive. The name of the new school is Willow Wood Elementary School.
• CR 278 is along the city limit of McKinney where portions of this county road rest within the jurisdictions of both the City of McKinney and Collin County. Therefore, this Ordinance for the reduced speed school zone along CR 278 will only apply to the annexed portion of this roadway. The Collin County Commissioners Court will establish the reduced speed school zone for Willow Wood Elementary School along CR 278 within their jurisdiction.
• The locations of the proposed reduced speed school zones along County Road 278 and Parkdale Drive for Willow Wood Elementary School are shown on the attached exhibit.
• The school zone time periods will be consistent with the Melissa ISD school schedule.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• It is noted that Melissa ISD paid for the procurement and installation of the school zone flashing beacons and all school related signage as part of the construction of the school.
