RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approve an Ordinance changing the name of the Collin County Regional Airport and naming the City's Fixed Base Operation "McKinney Air Center".
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The City of McKinney may name its airport and it's Fixed Base Operation.
· By renaming the airport, this Ordinance will properly identify the airport in accordance with its current federal designation.
· A name identifying the City's Fixed Base Operation as one that serves all types of aircraft is appropriate and will enhance the Fixed Base Operation's nation-wide marketing effort.
· By naming the Fixed Base Operation, the City will brand its aeronautical activity to enhance the Fixed Base Operation's marketing effort.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· An airport name change is appropriate and timely as the City of McKinney expands its airport business influence throughout the State and the nation.
· In May 2012, the Federal Aviation Administration designated Collin County Regional Airport at McKinney as a National Airport, placing it in the top 84 of 2,455 General Aviation Airports in the Country.
· Using the new designation will enhance the airport's status in the state and national airport systems.
