RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of Application and Acceptance of the U.S. Department of Justice 2011 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), if awarded.
• Agreement to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with Collin County and the City of Plano for disbursement of JAG funds.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The JAG provides funds to assist in the enhancement of public safety and crime reduction in the City of McKinney.
• Funds will be used to purchase equipment for the Intelligence and Information Unit.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The grant is issued by the U.S. Department of Justice to enable local law enforcement agencies to purchase needed equipment
• The grant funds will be shared by the City of McKinney, Collin County, and the City of Plano
• Agency funding is determined by the Department of Justice based on FBI Crime Data and city population estimates
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The grant will provide $15,770
• No match is required, however, the department anticipates providing certain expenditures to purchase additional needed equipment
