ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Colorful Collaborations has submitted the grant request on behalf of a volunteer, grassroots effort that carries the name Legacy Keepers of Old East McKinney.

                     The Legacy Keepers volunteers produced a film documentary, Black History of McKinney, in recognition of Black History Month in 2019.

                     Events such as walking/trolley/food tours will be established over the next six months.

                     The inaugural event will take place during Black History Month 2021 and will include a walking tour of Ross Cemetery - featuring Veteran and Buffalo Soldier history.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The mission and purpose of Legacy Keepers of Old East McKinney is to use the strength of members’ unique identities in a collective framework to document, honor and promote the historic legacies of McKinney’s Black and Mexican communities ensuring that all cultures are natural part of the community’s experiences.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     MCDC’s allocation for Promotional and Community Event grants for FY 21 Cycle I is $100,000.

                     Colorful Collaborations/Legacy Keepers of Old East McKinney is a first-time applicant for a Promotional and Community Event grant.
