RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of Application and Acceptance of the U.S. Department of Justice 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), if awarded.
· Authority to enter into an Interlocal Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with Collin County and the City of Plano for disbursement of JAG funds.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· The JAG provides funds to assist in the enhancement of public safety and crime reduction in the City of McKinney.
· Funds will be used to purchase equipment to improve the safety and efficiency of the McKinney Police Department. Equipment consists of a software product that allows officers to enter fingerprints, palm prints, and latents via flatbed scanner, digital camera, or live-scan devices, and gives the McKinney Police Department the ability to share files with and receive files from other NIST compliant systems.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· The grant is issued by the U.S. Department of Justice to enable local law enforcement agencies to purchase needed equipment.
· The grant funds are shared by the City of McKinney, Collin County, and the City of Plano. The City of McKinney's share is $12,883.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
· The cost of the equipment is $17,000. The grant will provide $12,883. The remaining $4,117 will be funded by the Law Enforcement Budget (Fund 11- Seized Funds).
· Funds are budgeted in FY15
