RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Appoint a member to the NTMWD Board
ITEM SUMMARY:
• There is a vacant seat for a City of McKinney representative to serve on the NTMWD Board of Directors. The newly appointed member will serve a partial term effective this date until May 31, 2024.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) was established in 1951 and provides water for 13 Member cities: Original ten cities of Farmersville, Forney, Garland, McKinney, Mesquite, Princeton, Plano, Rockwall, Royse City, and Wylie; and Richardson (1973), Allen (1998), and Frisco (2001).
• Cities with a population greater than 5,000 appoint two members to the board; Cities with populations less than 5,000 appoint one member.
• Board appointments are two years in length.
• McKinney Directors are:
o Geralyn Kever was appointed to a full term in 2021 to replace Joe Joplin, who served 18 years on the Board (2003-2021). Her term will expire May 31, 2023.
o Robert Appolito was appointed to a partial term in 2021 to replace Charles McKissick who served 19 years on the Board (2001-2020). Robert Appolito was reappointed in 2022 to a full two-year term but recently resigned.
